Professions in AAA
In AAA (Alterated Alternity Alternative), your Profession represents your character’s primary training and current role in the world. While a Background tells you where you came from, your Profession tells you what you do now.
Choosing a Profession is a key part of character creation. It provides:
- Minimum Ability Requirements: To qualify for a profession, you must meet certain physical or mental standards.
- Favored Skills: Each Profession identifies a set of skills that receive a Purchase Cost Discount (Market Value - 1).
- Unique Benefits: Every Profession grants special mechanical advantages.

Combat Spec
Warriors and tactical experts who rely on physical power and combat training.
Free Agent
Field operatives, troubleshooters, and specialists who rely on agility, intuition, and independence.
Tech Op
Technical operatives skilled in the use, creation, or maintenance of high-tech equipment.
Mindwalker
(Optional) Specialists in psionic powers and mental disciplines.

Starting Funds
Every hero starts with a bankroll to purchase their initial gear. Refer to the table below based on your chosen profession. Multiply the result by 100 to determine your total starting funds in Credits ($).

Rich and Poor
- Filthy Rich (Perk): Multiply your starting funds by x10, x20, x50, or x100 depending on your Perk check.
- Dirt Poor (Flaw): Reduce your starting funds by 90%, 75%, 50%, or 25% depending on your Flaw check.

Combat Spec
Combat Specialists (Combat Specs) are the primary warriors of the AAA universe. They rely on physical power, endurance, and rigorous training in the tactics and techniques of battle.

- STR 9+, CON 9+
Profession Benefits
- Action Check Increase: +3 to your Action Check score.
- Combat Bonus: Choose one combat specialty skill (from Melee Weapons, Unarmed Attack, or any Ranged/Heavy weapon skill). That skill’s base situation die improves from +d0 to -d4.

The following skills are central to the Combat Spec profession and are easier for these characters to master.
Free Agent
Free Agent
Free Agents are the ultimate troubleshooters. They rely on agility, intuition, and their natural resolve to handle situations that require a lighter touch than a Combat Spec or a Tech Op.

- DEX 9+, WIL 9+
Profession Benefits
- Action Check Increase: +2 to your Action Check score.
- Resistance Bonus: Choose one Ability. Improve its resistance modifier by +1 step.
- Last Resort Bonus: Your maximum Last Resort points increase by +1. You can also spend 2 points at once to shift a result by two grades.
Favored Skills (Cost: Market Value - 1)
Free Agents favor skills that help them move unseen, bypass security, and manipulate their surroundings.

Tech Op
Technical Operatives (Tech Ops) are masters of the high-tech universe. Whether they are pilots, doctors, or engineers, they rely on genius, agility, and specialized training to operate and maintain the complex machinery of the future.

- Action Check Increase: +1 to your Action Check score.
- Accelerated Learning: You gain extra skill points as you level up, representing your ability to quickly master new technologies.

Tech Ops favor skills that involve the understanding and manipulation of technology, biology, and the physical universe.

Mindwalker
Mindwalkers are individuals who have unlocked the latent potential of their minds. They specialize in psionics, using mental energy to influence the physical world and the minds of others.

- WIL 9+, PER 9+
Profession Benefits
- Psionic Potential: You have a base pool of psionic energy points.
- Mental Discipline: You gain unique benefits when using psionic skills.
Favored Skills (Cost: Market Value - 1)
Mindwalkers favor the psionic skills found in Chapter 14, as well as several mental and social disciplines.
